Lakeside Amusement Park was a beloved Salem, Virginia attraction from 1920-1986. Famous for the "Shooting Star" roller coaster and legendary performances by Chuck Berry the Everly Brothers, and more. The park ultimately closed down due to increasing competition, massive flooding, and the tragic death of 19-year-old landscape worker, Thomas G. Austin. RIP to Mr. Austin, The Shooting Star, and Lakeside Park.
